Bogle, Dick
ARTIST\'S STATEMENT

This exhibition stems from my passion for jazz music and my longtime interest in photography.

My interest in photography went largely unfulfilled until I retired in 1992. I took a Portland Parks class from Pat Bognar at the Multnomah Arts Center and later developed a close personal friendship with my photography mentor Jim Oleachea.

Jazz photography is more about emotion than motion. I try in my photographs to tap into that emotional moment when the artist lets me peer into his or her soul. Sometimes, when that happens, a responsive chord from my own soul is struck and the extension of myself, the camera, captures that moment.

This exhibit is not some sort of final summation of Dick Bogle and his photography. We both continue to be works in progress.
