GUY SWANSON

My entire photographic career lasted from the age of 11, when I won my first Kodak by selling magazines, until the age of 18. During that time, as yearbook photographer for my small high school, I had unlimited access to the darkroom and supplies, and developed a fascination with the whole photographic process. Watching an image emerge on paper was the ultimate high. College and living life put photography on a back burner for several decades.

In 1984, after many years in the corporate world, I took the plunge and made a 180° career change back into the art world. I've been advising clients on art investments and acting as a liaison between artists and collectors ever since. Even though I don't seriously photograph any more, I recognize the internal passion that drives those who use it as a creative means of expression.

My years in corporate management, however, have given me an insight into what it takes to bring vision to the public. I have been an official reviewer at events such as FotoFest, Society for Photographic Education, and Photo Americas, working with new artists who have the vision to create change and the passion to succeed.

In working with beginning collectors, I use this experience to help them understand just how the art market works.

Art, in the viewer, should bring a new way of seeing to their lives. For the artist, it is a way of surfacing new ideas from internal dialogue. My personal goal is to facilitate this collaboration.
